Week 2 of new model. This is an interesting one - next week I'm taking this canvas back and I'm gonna work on it again, since it's the same pose. This will be a unique opportunity to test out 2 part painting - I normally only work wet and in one go. Tony suggested it, and I'm a sucker for trying something different.
IF YOU DO THE SAME THING ALL THE TIME MOSQUITOS WILL LAY EGGS IN YOUR STAGNANT ASSES.
Hmmm... I like a lot of what's going on here. In fact, I think the model itself is very well done, your problems really come from not having developed the background sufficiently.
I think it'd help if you just carried your paint all the way to the edges of the canvas, because the edges destroy the illusion of space. Also, developing the planes of the floor as well as the chair-thing that she's sitting on would establish her presence more.
That said, I really like how you handled the figure itself. Your brushstrokes give a sense of the three-dimensional form, and I like how you didn't have to resort to caricature or overdetailing to get the face to be believable.
I do not dig the blue in the background I'd recommend a lighter blue, cause that one seems a bit muddy...also the lines defining her shape are so thick! When you go next week definitely try making them thinner and less blocky. Like on the arm part. If they're supposed to be shadows then uh. well. they shore are nice. (I would like it a little redder if it's for shadows though!)
The right leg looks a bit off...and by 'right leg' I mean 'right foot', specifically.
and my 'right foot', I mean feet. although the right one more so. The feet are delicate pieces of the human booody! Try to handle them like that. Same with the hands. A little more definition to both those bits wouldn't do no harm.
You've got basic lighting and from blocked out greatb ut I'd love to see some details when you go and rework it.
Also-- see that lovely red...a..uburn...colour on her neck that you used as a shadow? That's fantastic. It's a lovely purpley warm red that I think you should use instead of just the brown so that you give the figure a little bit more depth.
Also Diablerie dude up above is right. really work on those backgrounds bb.
Also you did a really really really fantastic job on the face.

Beware of GOD.
Next week when I work on this again I'll develop the BG and planes, and fill in the spare canvas space.
